Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning
The programme does not have any specific requirements for the recognition of prior learning.The procedure for recognition at AMU is governed by Articles 89 and 90 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions No. 111/1998 Coll., as amended, and by the AMU Attendance and Examination Regulations (Articles 8, 14, 18).
Qualification requirements and regulations
Graduates of Bachelor?s programmes at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU) or other universities are admitted to the Master's programme.
Regulations:The Czech education system is governed by the Act on Higher Education Institutions, as amended (Act No. 111/1998 Coll.), and by the internal regulations of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
Field of study characterization
The Master?s programme in Voice deepens practical education and more demanding repertoire in the area of voice.The instruction is focused mainly on stylistic interpretation, and is supplemented by required practice sessions.Both years of the Master?s programme are completed with a final solo singing performance in the form of a public recital or concert with an orchestra.
The skills acquired in the area of singing and acting, as well as theoretical knowledge in musical interpretation, can be verified by the student in practice through a major role in the opera studio under the direction of an experienced pedagogue and students in operatic directing.Already during the course of the Master?s programme, students have the opportunity to become involved in the practice or professional operatic theatres.
The programme reflects new developmental trends in the area of learned interpretation and contemporary music in the form of block seminars.
Subjects in musical aesthetics enable the student to acquire a wider overview in the area of music and independence in working on interpreting works of certain stylistic periods. They also enable him or her to shape a more refined operatic role technically, musically and psychologically.

A graduate of the Master?s programme in the field of Voice is prepared for a solo singing career path, particularly in opera.He or she commands a wide repertoire, knowledge of contemporary trends in the field and a conception of an artistic work.He or she has an overview of the contemporary music scene and the personalities of the music world.Thanks to comprehensive practical and theoretical knowledge, a graduate is able to view his or her own work critically and to formulate theoretical arguments in evaluating artistic enterprises.A graduate can make use of his or her skills not only as a singer, but also in the applied sphere and in pedagogical roles at various levels.
Occupational profiles of graduates with examples
Graduates can apply their skills in operatic ensembles of theatres in the Czech Republic and abroad, either as members of choirs or as soloists; in addition, they can become members of professional choir ensembles or devote themselves to chamber music.Graduates generally combine active artistic activity with pedagogical work at primary arts schools, conservatories, municipal cultural centres, musical academic high schools and primary schools.
Access to further studies
After duly completing the Master?s programme it is possible for a student to continue his or her studies in the doctoral programme in the field.
Examination regulations, assessment and grading
Studies are assessed by credits and examinations stipulated by study plans.The student is informed of these through the information system.The student registers for examinations using the information system, and is entitled to a second and third attempt to pass an examination.If neither of these attempts proves successful, the Dean may in exceptional cases permit a fourth attempt (administered by a commission).It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main subjects or to repeat written examinations.The credit is an ungraded form of assessment of studies.It is allocated upon fulfilment of requirements stipulated for individual subjects and is recorded in the information system with the word „Credited“ (Z).An examination is a graded form of assessment of studies, which tests knowledge and level of creativity in the relevant subject.In the main subjects, examinations are administered by a commission.Examinations are graded on the scale „A, B, C, D, E, F“.
Graduation requirements
The student fulfils the requirements set by the study plan.The student passes the final state examination.A condition of advancement to the Master?s examination is the realisation of the graduate concert.An additional requirement is the elaboration of a supplemental theoretical written work in accordance with an assigned topic.
The State Master?s Examination consists of the following parts:
-the diploma thesis and its defence (a theoretical written work);
-a discussion and defence of the Master?s concert (with piano, orchestra, etc.);
-an oral interview (concerning the main field).
