Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning
The programme does not have any specific requirements for the recognition of prior learning.
The procedure for recognition at AMU is governed by Articles 89 and 90 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions No. 111/1998 Coll., as amended, and by the AMU Attendance and Examination Regulations (Articles 8, 14, 18).
Qualification requirements and regulations
A completed university education in a Bachelor´s programme in the field of Music Management or a related field (e.g. cultural management or arts management, musicology, theatrology, etc.). Candidates who are not graduates of the Music Management programmes at the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (HAMU), the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno (JAMU) or other similar universities, or in the fields of musicology or theatrology, will be additionally tested before a committee on required musical prerequisites and knowledge of music history and theory.
Regulations: The Czech education system is governed by the Act on Higher Education Institutions, as amended (Act No. 111/1998 Coll.), and by the internal regulations of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
Field of study characterization
The continuing Master´s programme devotes attention to specialist areas, in particular the music industry, financing from EU sources, a very detailed comparative analysis of copyright legislation in Czech, European (continental) and Anglo-Saxon law. In the Master´s programme, attention is also devoted to questions of the business approach in the area of culture and other problems which require an independent approach.
Key learning outcomes
Graduates of the Master´s programme can work as supervisors at our foreign centres, department heads at ministries or founders of successful private companies and festivals. They also work in leading positions in state, public or municipal orchestras and theatres. Their musical, legal, economic and linguistic preparation enable them to compete in this area with top foreign managers.
Occupational profiles of graduates with examples
Graduates of the Master´s programme in music management work as intendants in operatic theatres, large symphonic orchestras and festivals, managers of private agencies and specialised artistic agents, workers and top management in publishing houses, managers in the media sphere as well as employees and supervisors of various departments in state and public administration.
Access to further studies
For graduates of the Master´s programme in music management, it is possible to study in the doctoral programme in Music Production, to study copyright law at Charles University´s Law Faculty, to study economics at the University of Economics, Prague, or to attend lifelong learning or language training programmes
Examination regulations, assessment and grading
Studies are assessed by credits and examinations stipulated by study plans. The student is informed of these through the information system.
The student registers for examinations using the information system, and is entitled to a second and third attempt to pass an examination. If neither of these attempts proves successful, the Dean may in exceptional cases permit a fourth attempt (administered by a commission). It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main subjects or to repeat written examinations.
The credit is an ungraded form of assessment of studies. It is allocated upon fulfilment of requirements stipulated for individual subjects and is recorded in the information system with the word „Credited“ (Z). An examination is a graded form of assessment of studies, which tests knowledge and level of creativity in the relevant subject. In the main subjects, final examinations are administered by a commission. An examination may be practical, written, oral, or involve a combination of these methods. Examinations are graded on the scale „A, B, C, D, E, F“.
Graduation requirements
- The student fulfils the requirements of the study plan.
- The student defends a final Master?s written work of the required length.

The state final Master?s examination includes an oral examination in these theoretical disciplines:
a) Fundamental concepts in economics and law, copyright law in music, ability to independently elaborate basic types of contracts and comprehensive project proposals in the area of music management.
