Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students adopt techniques for working on a collectively created lexicographic handbook: they demostrate how to create an index, establish content and formal aspects of independent indices and check the functionality of those established indices.

Mode of study

Independent, but coordinated and managed work on a group project: study support for the course Figures of Theatre Criticism.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

A fundamental bearing in the history of Czech thought on theatre, particularly theatre criticism.

Course contents

This course is conceived of as group work on electronic study support for the Figures of Theatre Criticism course which through individual indexes reaches key figres of Czech thought on theatre from the 19th century to the present. In the first phase students are, based on their experience in studies, together, limit the range of information which this aid should offer their successors and on this basis create indexes of individual figures. This in practice means:

The aim of this project, simulating conditions of advanced education work of a lexicographic research team, is to create, under the guidance of instructors, functioning and coordinated collaboration in which master's students can communicate, primarily in the position of the creators of individual indexes and then doctoral candidates in the editor's position.

Assessment methods and criteria

The fundamental task of the first semester is to establish the range of indexes and further develop and check the content and formal form of individual indexes. Credit is awarded based on activity in group collaboration and fulfilling tasks.
