Learning outcomes of the course unit

This module class will introduce future media in the way it´s being perceived by the Kay Meseberg who is responsible for Innovations in the German-French public television channel ARTE. A television medium has been transformed in the past few decades thanks to media convergence. It is in competition with the internet and internet formats, which interest younger target audience. Some televisions emphasize particular target group mainly through the internet. ARTE is a front public European television channel which is a front leader in interactive formats and produce these kind of projects on European basis. First VR formats were introduced by this television more than 5 years ago and are currently accessible through mobile phones VR channel (accessible also through a personal computer). Innovations are not only about VR. Kay Meseberg is also working on game formats and special types of storytelling formats. Workshop will show present situation in new formats and show possible directions for the future. The class will be held in English language.

Course contents

This workshop is dedicated to the future of media. AI, AR, VR, Metadata, Holographic TV, 8K, Fake News, Blockchain, Cloud – buzzwords like these are all around but they mean nothing without connecting them to the right context. Based on examples from the past and recent years the tour de horizont is about the past, present and the future which will be presented in a keynote. The second part will be open for listeners to find out how media landscape already changed in the last roughly ten years in different examples. The third part will be an open discussion about possible future scenarios for the day after tomorrow.

The Head of Mission Innovation at the European cultural network ARTE Kay Meseberg will add his experience with innovative projects to this workshop.
