Name of lecturer(s)
Learning outcomes of the course unit
This course focuses on the acquisition of a basic knowledge of organic chemistry so the student will have a good bearing in the issues of organic chemistry in relation to degradation and examining photographic material.
Mode of study
Students will no in this course perform individual work, their understanding of degradation processes will be monitored arising form the chemical bases of photographic material and an estimation of the possible risk connected with inappropriate storage/manipulation/examination of those materials.
Prerequisites and co-requisites
The course content is: organic compound nomenclature, main classes of organic compounds - aliphatic hydrocarbons, cyclical hydrocarbons, halogen derivatives of hydrocarbons, alcohols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, saccharides and polysaccharides, esters, fats, soaps, waxes, amines, amino acids, polypeptides, lipids, waxes, polymeric materials, surfactants and solvents.
