Following a screening of the CAPOTE (2005) students will be presented a case study in the financing and production of this Oscar nominated film.

On Thursday morning, students will participate in a colloquium on the production and international co-production of independent films. Students should be prepared to bring questions to this open discussion.

Andrew Hurwitz is a founding partner in the law firm of Epstein, Levinsohn, Bodine, Hurwitz and Weinstein, LLP. Practicing in the firm?s motion picture and television group, his clients include both first-time and Academy Award winning directors, writers, actors, independent producers and financiers, as well as major motion picture studios, and television networks in the United States and abroad. Andrew provides transactional and advisory services concerning motion picture financing and sales, as well as business development. He also renders services in the representation of senior executives at major studios. Recent deals include representing Michael Moore on his new film „Sicko“ and structuring the financing and distribution of „Capote“ on behalf of his client Bennett Miller. He also recently sold „Transamerica“ to The Weinstein Company and „Ushpizin“ to Picturehouse.

Within the entertainment community, Mr. Hurwitz is a frequent guest speaker and panelist, lecturing on entertainment law topics and negotiations at law schools and film schools throughout the USA. He has also shared his tactical knowledge relating to the negotiation of industry agreements in publications sponsored by the UCLA Entertainment Law Symposium and the Practicing Law Institute. Variety has named him one of the top players in independent film for three years running.

Mr. Hurwitz was admitted to the New York Bar in 1989 and received his J.D., cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center.
