MASTER CLASSES BY FRENCH DIRECTORS

This year, One World is focusing on contemporary French documentary film. Within the framework of this section, we are also organising two master classes by prominent French filmmakers:

Jean-Gabriel Périot (1974)

March 7 (Friday), 10am-4pm, FAMU, Room No. 2:

Member of the One World Grand Jury Jean-Gabriel Périot is an experimental French filmmaker whose movie „Even If She had been a Criminal...“ won the prize for best short film at last year?s One World. We have included five of his films in this year?s One World programme, including his latest documentary „200,000 Phantoms“, which is being screened in the Short Forms Competition. The scope of his work ranges from documentary, animated and experimental films to conceptual installations. Périot?s own short films will be screened as part of the master class.

Olivier Zabat (1965)

March 11 (Tuesday), 5.20pm - 8.30pm, FAMU, Room No. 217 (Documentary department):

The versatile French artist and documentary-maker Olivier Zabat studied at the Academy of Arts in Grenoble. He works as a photographer, three-dimensional artist and a filmmaker, and he currently teaches at the film school in Lyon. He combines many expressive possibilities in his films, ranging from sociology to experimental or creative forms. His film „Nine Turns“ is being presented at One World and excerpts from this picture as well as from the filmmaker?s other works (e.g. „Miguel et les mines“ and „1/3 des yeux“) will be shown during the master class.
