Course Description:
The student in the second or third year must do one practical of his or her choice and present it in the form of a book. He or she can choose from the practicals of the following subjects included in the curriculum of second and third years: in the second year -Outdoor Photography - Architecture (2K6), Documentary Photography (2K7), Creative Photography (2K8), Applied Photography (2K9) or in third year they choose from the practicals assigned in the four basic studios and Theatre Photography (3K12). Allowing students to choose their own practicals enables them to make a photographic book on the topic closest to their own ways of working.
The book from the practicals of the second-year subjects need not be made in this year if the student has not been able to hand in the photographs of the normal assignment of the practical, but it can instead be made in the third year with the same teacher, when the topic is expanded or dealt with differently.
The appearance and overall conception of the photographic book are up to the student in consultation with the course teacher and teacher in charge of graphic design and photography. The graphic design and typography of the book are results of a close cooperation between the student and his or her teacher.
The photographic book has its own rules which vary in the approach to the photographic image. The aim of the course is to learn to consider aspects such as the importance of the order the photographs appear in, their relationship to each other, interconnections, proportions, rhythm, relationship of the photograph to the written text and graphic design.
The essential thing is to speak through the book that has a suitable, persuasive and strong photographic form.
