Study Objectives:

The objective of the course is to extend and broaden the topic to the students and acquaint them with the Arts production of Canada, both present and past, in the area of film, Arts, literature, music. The students will learn about the Arts organizations, both provincial and federal, which support the Arts in Canada. They will also study the Arts production of the First Nations and Inuits of Canada in more detail.

Outline and Syllabus:

The course is designed for the Academy of Performing Arts and Academy of Fine Arts students and for all other students interested in Canadian Studies. The course will look into various aspects and topics of Canadian Arts using English as a vehicle, as a means, by which all these aspects and topics can be studied and understood. The principal area of interest will include Fine/Visual Arts, Literature and Film. The names of major cultural institutions will be dealt with according to their role, purpose and history.

Topics that will be presented during the course will try to combine all aspects of the themes and give students an opportunity to master the themes in different activities / variations that are part of the whole topics. All parts of the whole topics will be dealt with accordingly.

Whenever a new activity starts, new vocabulary will be written on the board or will be given to the students in copied forms and explained (if necessary) in order for the students to familiarize themeselves with the new terms.

The first part of the lesson will be an oral presentation of the topic by the teacher and in the second part the students will be invited to actively participate in various topic-oriented activities - reading, writing, listening, speaking and, if necessary, also translating.
