Synopsis:

A subject intended for students of directing and dramaturgy, which introduces to them the problems of scenography. It familiarizes them with the basic types of theatrical space and with handling the relationship between the stage and the hall in various theatrical cultures and historical periods. It provides information about present-day variant solutions for the handling of theatrical space. It teaches students to cooperate with a scenographer and to think about a dramatic text in terms of dramatic space and its solution on stage.

2) Mise en scene and ground plan.

3) Uses and possibilities of specific materials on the stage.

4) Sources of inspiration, the basics of lighting.

5) The directing and scenographic conception for a selected dramatic text.

6) The scenographic gesture.

7) Trends and possibilities in contemporary scenography.

Syllabus:

An investigation of the basic parameters of space and its dramatic possibilities is enriched by the interpretation and demonstrations of the basic types of theatrical space during various historical and stylistic periods. For directing students, it is important that they foster a sense of and feeling for the dramatic space contained in the text, and that they seek its scenographic form. They familiarize themselves with the possibilities of the technologies and materials used, with an important chapter covering lighting. The climax of the seminar is the preparation of a scenographic/directing conception for a selected dramatic text. It is in this phase that the students are familiarized with the specific artistic questions of scenography and its modern trends.
