Synopsis:

In the first part of the fifth semester the teaching focuses on the creators of contemporary multi-media theatre Robert Lepage (Canada), Wooster Group (USA) and the latest tendencies in so-called technological theatre. The second part concentrates on radical forms which combine theatre with public discussion (Jakob Wrenn, PME, Canada) or social and political positions (Reza Abdoh, USA).

Study is based on personal experience as a spectator, both by video projections and directly by visiting performances or through personal meetings with the artists.

Teaching through video projections, visits to performances, thematic seminars.

Prerequisites:

1. Creative ability

2. Capacity for independent reflection on the subject

3. Ability to analyse and reflect

4. Capacity for synthetic thought

5. Sufficient cultural overview and detailed knowledge of theatre history.

Study Objectives:

The subject?s aim is to familiarise the department?s students with the widest range of trends in contemporary world theatre. Emphasis is placed on the diversity of contemporary theatre and the dissolving of boundaries between individual art forms. Students learn about contemporary developments in the dramatic arts through profiles of contemporary practitioners in theatre, dance, puppet theatre design.
