- Tutor:
- Daniela JOBERTOVÁ, Julius NEUMANN, Martina SCHLEGELOVÁ
- Synopsis:
-
The seminar completes a cycle during which students are familiarized with the theory of translation, the history of translation in a Czech context and the development of translation techniques (especially in relation to texts in verse). Students use the knowledge gained in their own translation attempts.
- Prerequisites:
-
- participation at the seminar according to an individual schedule
- continuous work on a translation and regular individual consultation;
- report on the work and its author;
- finished translation of a selected foreign language original.
- Study Objectives:
-
The goal of the seminar is both to continue with discussion of theoretical problems of translating especially in relation to current production practice and to create a translation of a chosen dramatic text including suggestions for dramatic adaptations (taking into consideration a possible production).
- Outline and Syllabus:
-
Work in the seminar is planned individually according to students' language abilities. They choose the originals they intend to work on translating, and while translating they also do a dramaturgical analysis (including a dramaturgical critique) and offer departure points for a possible staged interpretation.
- Study materials:
-
Texts for translation are selected based on students' language skill (see the curriculum).
