The seminar follows up directly on the seminar Contemporary Theatre in the West 1, continuing to familiarize students with the most important contemporary Euro-American theatrical tendencies. Besides direct individual experience with foreign theatre, it uses video recordings, foreign language dramatic texts and, of course, texts existing in Czech translation.

The course's goal is to continue with reflection on dramatic and theatrical creation in selected language areas (French in this case) and to try to understand it in a broader historical context (in this case in the context of French rhetorical theatre).

French drama and theatre:
1. The phenomenon of Bernard-Marie Koltes: renaissance of dramatic dialogue (analysis of several key texts, analysis of recordings of productions, play rehearsals etc.)
2. Aesthetic of the fragment and dramatic monologue: Philippe Minyana
3. Contemporary French comedy: Yasmina Reza and Jean-Claude Carriere versus Daniel Lemahieu and Eugene Durif
4. Frency „lyric coolness“: from Xavier Durringer to the generation today in their thirties.
5. Deconstruction of language: Valere Novarina
