Description of the subject:
The seminar will be devoted to the practical role of the photographer in the contemporary world. It will be conducted on two mutually linked levels ? the possibilities of the presentation of photography in the context of contemporary art and the joint reflection of exhibitions visited and own photographic collections. The themes discussed will be developed from the present exhibition policy of individual institutions, actual social and political situation (elections, war events, etc.) and also the student work submitted.
In concrete places the students will be acquainted with the activity of the curators of exhibitions and art collections, with individual institutions (museum, gallery, kunsthalle) and photographic festivals, with types of exhibition catalogues and with the organisational preparation of exhibitions. The seminar will prepare students methodically for the writing of the theoretical work for their master's degree, the preparation of a portfolio, etc.
Students will be led to independent thinking and cognition, to the ability to approach art and the surrounding world critically, to accept the responsibility of the artist for his work. Different approaches to the perception of art from the viewpoint of the artist, the interpreter and the public will be demonstrated.
