Syllabus

Contemporary puppet theatre is very difficult to place in its original disciplines (marionette, hand-puppet, javajka etc.), just like its puppets. The historical division of puppet productions by individual technologies is now, when puppet, actor - guide and actor meet in the same space, an anachronism, although on the other hand all these traditional types exist and live. By learning about the classical types of puppet, their technological possibilities and potential for expression, students develop a certain consciousness and understanding of the means and possibilities for ?puppet forms? as a source of inspiration or a direct production instrument, even if this may be in an entirely different context to the one orignally used. Research into these transformations helps one to understand and master the sense of puppetry production and the „technology of the puppet“, especially its scope to portray meaning and as a path to a dramatic statement. It leads to an appreciation of of the puppet, with its controlling mechanism, not only as an artistic artefact but as a symbol in the statement.
