Synopsis:

The course expands the awareness of the students in the area in which they have acquired a fundamental knowledge of drama training and children's theatre. This also instills individual types and currents of drama training and domestic and international personalities in the field into a context of development of education and theatre.

Prerequisites:

This instructions is linked to acquired experience with various types of drama training, particularly the instruction in „Practikum DV“, managed projects and knowledge from participating various reviews and workshops (particularly Children's theatre). The students are required to have a knowledge of the literature of the Drama training, education and theatre studies fields. Part of the course is a systematic monitoring of the development of the field and particular sources based on the field literature and other materials.

Study Objectives:

The aim of the course is a knowledge of the basic types and directions of drama training from the turn of the 19th to 20th century until the present and an introduction to the oldest phases of children's and youth theatre and their various forms and functions. Another goal is the develpment of abilities and skills in analysis of various types and concepts of drama training and to uncover their possible applications in the work of the students.

- Children and youth and liturgical and educational theatre in the Middle-ages and after the Renaissance.

- Jesuit and Piarist educational theatre.

- Jan Amos Komensky and his „education through play“.

- The Enlightenment and the end of educational theatre.

> The Pre-Romantic and Romantic and children's theatre:

- Countess de Genlis and her Education theatre (théatre d' éducation).

- Revival drama for children in the Czech lands; Matěj Jozef Sychra.

> Children's theatre as a means of edification and national consciousness:

- František Pravda

- Children's performances in the Prozatím Theatre and it critical renown.

- The end of the century and the stage fairy tale trend.

> Drama training in the Century of the child:

- Reform educators and drama training.

- Henry Caldwell Cook and „The Play Way“.

- „Creative drama“ of Winifred Ward - birth of modern drama training. „Playmaking“ Geraldine Brian Siks.

- The personality of Miloslav Disman, his concept of drama training and the influence of his work on the genesis of modern Czech drama training.

> Drama training in the second half of the 20th century:

- Constituted modern Czech drama training in the 1960s.
