Synopsis:

This course introduces students to strategies, methods and types of lessons for children's theatre ensembles. The students are introduced to the specifics of working with various developmental periods of children and the methods and lessons pursuing particular goals (searching for and working with a topic, characters, working in a space, etc.) In the final lesson the students will actively take part in a stage piece or other type of project withing the working framework of the ensemble and the proposed piece and execution their own lesson for a children's theatre ensemble.

Prerequisites:

Students employ knowled from the Dv I, & II Practicals and Didactics of Drama training.

Study Objectives:

- Students are able to select methods with consideration of the age and developmental specifics of the children.

- Students conscientiously select lesson types and strategies for individual phases.

- Students are able to consider their own experience, select alternatives, resolve problem situations, work with goal oriented structures.

- Students prove ability to create different lesson types for a theatre ensemble keeping in mind the inherent rules and specifics of creative theatre.

Outline and Syllabus:

Curriculum:

- Methodical work with consideration of chidren's psychological development.

- Working strategies and lesson types

- Stage work or other type of long-term projects with a children's ensemble.

- Independent student performances, reflection upon those performances and evaluation.

Syllabus:

In the first part of the course (first semester) the student will cover working methods with a view to developmental psychology. Theory will be established in lecture examples of particular child age groups and examples though monitoring age group theatre performances. In the second section of the course the student will get to know the various types of lesson for various goals (warm-up exercises, searching for topics, working on characters, use of improvization and drama plays). The third semester will be devoted to long-term work on a particular topic from selection of the subject, searching for content, topics, situations and possible product directions.
