Synopsis:

Each student attempts work proceudre for a solo reciter with a text. From selection to dramaturgic and interpretive preparations to execution. Part of instruction is methodology for working with children and youth and knowledge of a wide-range of activities to acquire children for this field.

In preparations and execution of a reciting projet in small groups, the students journey from drama preparations to staging. This course is conceived as a path of building a foundation of recitation preparations to the intepretation of a text.

Prerequisites:

Each student, a future drama training instructor, should have personal experience in the preparation and execution of a solo performance and if possible a group performance.

Based on the knowledge of this process, the student should have the experience to present and use it in working with children and youth. Diverse and interesting activities to stir their interest in literature, reading and reciting. An important requirement for this experience is active participation in the lessons.

Study Objectives:

- Recognize and appreciate the characteristics of speaking performance, develop ability to perceive and judge the quality of a text, investigate manners of communicating to the publice personal experiences from reading, opinions and attitudes.

- Base on text analysis, to purposefully use internal and external expression tools. Use skills acquired in vocal training in the preparations of solo and collaborative performances.

- Learn methods to spontaneously bring children to recitation. Discuss a range of topics which children are interested in depending on their age group.

- In collaborative performance material, to search for the staging key, hand in hand stage expression of a written text.

Curriculum

- Personal development through activities aimed at recitation.

Syllabus

- Interpreting material using related artistic discipline (music, movement, color).

- „Training“ of sensible imagination. (association, imagination, working with metaphor, subtexts).

- Using personal experience for understanding the life experiences of other people. Old for new.

- Narrating, storytelling.

- Judging the artistic maturity of a poem.

- Looking under the surface of a text to its core, significance, at depth.

- Sensitive „analysis“ of a text. (intuitive recitation, intuitive assembly).

- Range, composition, assembly.

- Inspired writing. (We can understand the poet when we try, at least for a moment to become one.)

- Ego - image of oneself. (material me, social me, spiritual me).

- Reproduction and interpretation. Sound tools for dividing dependent phrases.

- Radio. (News, announcing programs, introductions, microphone)

- Selecting a text with consideration of the psycho-physical requirements, life and interpretation experience.

- Dramaturgic analysis. (uncovering the sense, relationship to real life, form, language, style.)

- Interpretation preparations. (Creating an image, interal organization of the text, speaking techniques, study, setting the form)

- Communication. Author, reader, reciter, listener - audience. feedback.

- Meta-linguistic tools. (movement, attitude, gesture, face; space, light, costumes, emotional impact upon the listener).

- Criteria for evaluating reciting performance. How does children's reciting differ from the artistic.
