Synopsis:

This is a course in psychology and its practical use for teachers in drama education. It contains an overview of psychology, lay-out and understanding of psychology terminology, familiarization with the fundamental directions in psychology, their paradigms and transference, psychological disciplines (developmental psychololgy, social psychology, etc.), as well as self-testing, psychological tests and questionnaires, methods of drama therapy a psychotherapy focused on the body.

Prerequisites:

Students should be able to orient themselves in basic psychological concepts. They should be capable to specify individual developmental periods in relation to Drama education. Students should be able to describe basic theories of personality and apply them in the pedagogical process. Part of the exam is the defense of the students individual work.

Study Objectives:

The goal is to provide the students with sufficient orientation in psychology for its use in pedagogical practice. To create the competence to create a sensible and relevant definition of the psychology phenomenon based on their own knowledge and knowledge from literature. To develop personalities and developmental specifics for particular drama education target groups (young school age, retirees, etc.) To understand children with behavioural problems and expand the possiblities of managing that behaviour. Among other goals are introducing students more in depth with the concept of personality and learning to select the appropriate pedagogical approach based on their knowledge of individual personality types. Finally, to map the borders between pscyhotherapy and drama education.

- Psychology

- General psychology (mental phenomena and processes)

- The methodology of psychology, methods of researching mental and social phenomena.

- Personality type diagnostics

- Fundamentals of developmental psychology.

- Fundamentals of the psychology of personality types

- Fundamentals of social psychology

- Applied psychology, pedagogical psychology and the psychology of actors.

- Mental problems and psychopathology, crisis intervention.

- Drama education and psychotherapy.

- Additional contributions of psychology to Drama education, Fairy-tale archetypes and psychotherapy focused on the body.

Syllabus:

1. Psychology: psychology as a science, most important moments in the history of psychology, psychology paradigms, pluralism in psychology, fundamental psychology directions, fundamental psychology terminology, concept definitions, determination of paradigms.

2. General psychology: the psyche - experience, acquaintance, feeling and strength, behaviour, conduct, word and expression. Concepts of consciousness and the subconscious. Mental processes and disposition, intelligence, memory and will.

3. Methodology of psychology: quantitative and qualitative research, research methods, experiments, observations, analysis of effective steps. Research in Drama education.

4. Diagnosing personality types.

5. Fundamentals of developmental psychology.

6. Fundamentals of the psychology of personality.

7. Fundamentals of social psychology.

8. Applied psychology.

9. Mental problems and psychopathology, crisis intervention: problem versus sickness, fundamental classification of psychopathology, psychosis, neurosis and personality disorders. Difficult life situations and principles of crisis intervention.

10. Drama education and psychotherapy: Directions in psychotherapy, transference and counter-transference, psychodrama, drama therapy and drama education. Ethics in psychotherapy and drama education.

11. Fairy-tale archetypes and psychotherapy focused on the body: an archetype and its role in a story, fairy-tale analysis and archetypal transposition of the story. The role of symbols.

12. The body in psychotherapy and theatre, personal experience lesson, grounding, chasms, sitting. A. Pesso and the Pesso-Boyden Psychomotor system in relationship to structured drama.
