Synopsis:

Psychology and its practical use for the drama training instructor. The course contains an overview of psychology, organization and understanding of psychological terminology, familiarization with the fundamental psychological branches, their paradigms and contributions, psychology disciplines (developmental psychology, social psychology, etc.). As well the course includes self-experience, psychological tests and surveys, drama therapy methods and psychotherapy focuse on the body.

Prerequisites:

The student should have a basic knowledge of fundamental psychological concepts, be able to specify individual development periods in relationship to drama training, be able to describe fundamental personality theory and apply it in the educational process. Part of the exam is a defense of the individual paper.

Study Objectives:

The aim of the course is to provide students with sufficient basic knowledge of psychology for use in their education practice. To produce abilities to create sensible and relevant definitions of psychological phenomena based on their knowledge and knowledge of the literature. To understand personality development and development characteristic of particular drama training target groups (young school age, retirees, and the like..) To understand behaviour of children with behavioural problems, expand the possibilities of managing that behaviour. Among other goals is an introduction into a wider concept of personality, learn to select an appropriate educational approach based on knowledg of personality types. Finally, to map out the borders between psychotherapy and drama training.

Outline and Syllabus:

Curriculum:

- Psychology.

- General psychology (mental phenomena and processes).

- Psychology methodology, methods of researching mental and social phenomena,

- Personality diagnosis.

- Bases of developmental psychology.

- Bases of social psychology.

- Applied psychology, educational psychology and the psychology of actors.

- Mental problems and psychopathology, crisis intervention.

- Drama training in psychotherapy.

- Further contributions of psychology to Drama training, fairy tale archetypes and psychotherapy focused on the body.

Syllabus:

1. Psychology: psychology as a science, the most important moments in the history of psychology, paradigms of psycholgy, pluralism in psycholgy, basic psychology branches, basics of psychology terminology, conepts and definition of concepts determined by paradigms.

2. General psychology: psyche - experience, recognition, feelings and aspirations, behaviour, action, word and expression. Concepts of conscious and subconsious. Mental process and disposition, intelligence, memory and will.

3. Methodology of psychology: quantitative and qualitative research, methods of research, experiment, observation, analysis of steps of action. Research in Drama training.

4. Personality diagonistics.

5. Bases of developmental psychology.

6. Bases of personality psychology.

7. Bases of social psychology.

8. Applied psychology.

9. Mental prolbmes and psychopathology, crisis intervention: problem versus illness, basic classifications of psychopathology, psychoses, neuroses and personality disorders. Difficult life situations and bases of crisis intervention.

10. Drama training and psychotherapy: branches in psychotherapy, transference and counter-transference, psycho-drama, drama therapy and drama training. Ethics in psychotherapy and in Drama training.

11. Fairy tale archetypes and psychotherapy focused on the body: An archetype and its role in a story, analysis of a fairy tale, archetype transposition in a story. The role of symbols.

12. The body in psychotherapy and theatre: self-experience lesson, grounding, chasms, sitting. A. Pesso and the Pesso-Boyden Psycho-motoric system in relationship to structured drama.
