Synopsis:

We continually move within the space around us. This effects - whether we want or not - our sizze, divisions, form, orientation, etc. The acts, which are the bases of dramatic situations also take place in a space. They mutually change or supplement the original relationship of the figures involved as well as to the space. This course employs knowledge and experience acquired in working with materials and expanding abilites to theatrically and creatively sense a mass and space arrangement at the level of the selected profession. This is an introduction to set design disciplines.

Prerequisites:

A condition for completing the course is the completion of one's own stage design proposal. As well an explanation and defense of the concept on the stage plan of the narrative.

Study Objectives:

In this course particular attention is paid to acquiring experience in working with material and expanding creative and theatrical abilities in the perception of quality materials and the spatial organization at a professional level.

Course aims:

1. Introduce students with the basic possibilities in composition and spatial relationships (architecture, sculpting, the surroundings, topology).

2. Provide students the basic information regarding the development of theatre spaces, stage design and their individual media (types of theatre spaces, stage design instruments.

3. Provide students direct experience in working with a drama text with consideratoin of the space and stage design (the path from the text to the drama space).

The result is to understand the place and sense of stage design in the proces of creating a theatre staging or drama event. The student should be able to use creative elements for staging as a part of their theatre language in practice.

Outline and Syllabus:

1. Development of stage spaces and stage design instruments. Form and orientation of the stage and audience.

2. Stage design dramaturgy: practical experience analysing a text from a set design viewpoint.

3. Creative directorial concept - constructing the creative directorial concept with a particular text and its objective recording using creative-graphic instruments.
