Synopsis:

This course expands - primarily based on the student's own experience - knowledge regarding the structure of the subject and it possibilities, goals, methods, techniques and forms. The subject matter over drama education theory is constantly instilled into a historic context so the student acquires an overview of the basic periods of the development of drama education.

Prerequisites:

Instruction continues on the acquired experience with various types of drama education, particularly in the „Drama Training Practical“ instruction within the framework of guided practice and knowledge from participation in various reviews and workshops (particularly Children's theatre). The student is presumed to have a knowledge of Drama education, pedagogy and theatre studies. Sections of the coursework include observing the development of the profession and one's own approach based on subject literature and other materials.

Study Objectives:

The goal of the course is an orientation in the fundamental types and directions of drama training from the turn of the 19th to 20th until the present and an introduction to the most significant persons in the field. Another aim is to denominate and classify knowledge in the field based on to date study and one's own experience. To develop abilities and skills in analysing various types and concepts of drama training and bring the students to a greater understanding of their relationship, reasons and conseqences. This will include an ability to orally and in written form to formulate theory knowledge and define fundamental concepts.

Outline and Syllabus:

> Drama training as a system.

> The relationship of Drama training to other disciplines.

> Theatre and drama as a source of content and methods for Drama training.

> The Play, its foundations and classifcations of plays, the play as a free activity and directed in the framework of training and education, the play and acting.

> Fundamental principles of modern acting and its application in drama training methods.

> Acting in the role and its application in training and education.

> Improvisation and interpretation.

> Creativity

> The history of Drama training and children's theatre:

- Children and youth and liturgy and school theatre in the Middle Ages and after the Renaissance.

- The Jesuit and Piaristic school theatres.

- Komensky and his „school of play“.

- Revival drama for children in the Czech Republic.

- The end of the century and the trends of the stage fairy tale.

- Drama training in „the century of the child“ - reform movements and Drama training in the Czech Republic and in the world: „Creative Drama“ of Winifred Ward - the birth of modern Drama training. The persona of Miloslav Disman.

- Drama Training in the second half of the 20th Century in the world: Drama improvisation as a means of developing the persona (Brian Way). Drama plays and children's acting: Viola Spolin and her „theatre games.“ „The Revolution“ of Dorothy Heathcote. Structuring drama practice and so-called process (school) drama. Applied Drama training - Drama training methods in other subjects.

- Czech Drama training and childrens theatre and reciting in the second half of the 20th Century: Children's puppet theatre and its stimulation for the origin of modern Czech Drama training. The beginnings of modern Czech Children's theatre. Constitutive modern Czech Drama training in the 1960s. Children's theatre in the reflection of national reviews of children's theatre and reciting from the end of the 1960s.

- Drama training in the Czech Republic and the world at the turn of the century: Drama training in schools. The theatre in training and education. Improvisational leagues. World and international Children's theatre festivals and workshops.
