Synopsis:

A continuation of interactive lectures about trends and the current state of the theatre in the Czech Republic; portraits of personalities, ensembles and other overall theatre configuration phenomena (the theatre as a public cultural service, private and non-profit alternative theatre - independent civil initiatives). This course at the bachelor level uses lecturer video projections and other documentation, publications and organizational work, and in some cases analysis of the audience.

Study Objectives:

The aim is and understanding of the present art and theatre, ability to properly critique today's theatre and a sense of theatre in a historical and time sycnchronic (international)

context, as well, a well-knowledged reinforcement of self-confidence of a specialist in theatre.

Outline and Syllabus:

In the summer semester the aim leads towards the current situation of diversity in theatre. This is nearly a restoration of private enterprise sector after 1989. An analysis of the new scope of the non-profit sector including the alternative scene, single performance and international projects, festivals, workshops and other atypical events. Furthermore an accent is placed upon the influence of globalization and chance in international encounters, the more difficult competition environment and other of today's features (ex: expansion of new media and technology, changes in function). The border between theatre and other artistic types has become thinner. Alongside thought and aesthetic bases (postmodern, reconstruction, etc.), the lay of the land is a new concept of theatre performance, peception of theatre in its whole, including systems and substance which provoke and proliferates artistic creation. This courses considers the discussions and course paper results. It is completed with an exam.
