Synopsis:

The class is in two parts: the textbook Overview of the History of Czech Theatre covering basic developmental stages in the history of Czech theatre from its beginnings to 1862. The lectures cover selected phenomena of Czech theatre after 1945.

Prerequisites:
Study Objectives:

To give students an orientation in the constitutive traditions and basic developmental tendencies of Czech theatre in the context of the history of Czech culture and society.

Outline and Syllabus:

From the beginnings of Czech theatre to the emergence and formation of modern Czech culture - from the 6th century to 1862.

Lectures on theatre after 1945 and characteristics of the 1950s and on Otomar Krejčí and Jan Grossman and the development of Czech acting after 1945
