- Tutor:
- Jaroslav VOSTRÝ
- Synopsis:
-
The seminar familiarizes 1st year of the bachelor's programmes for directing, dramagurgy, theory and criticism students with the nature of artistically oriented expression „from the inside“, within the framework of literary expression containing a certain potency for staging. Here and in the 2nd semester, terms are arrived at by induction, i.e. with the help of interpretation of texts written by the students themselves.
- Prerequisites:
-
Handing in original texts (record of a dream, description of observed action, record of an overheard dialogue, dialogue in a situation and other texts, the subject and focus of which will be based on the individual abilities of students exhibited when performing earlier assignments) and reflections on the texts of others using appropriate terminology.
- Study Objectives:
-
The goal of the class is to develop creativity through writing focused so that through it the student's ability to express him/herself can be cultivated, both generally, i.e. in their instincitive and conscious (artistic) tendency towards potentially symbolic (thematicized) expression and in connection with their feeling for staging and its cultivation.
- Outline and Syllabus:
-
Students develop their literary expression through work on their own texts, and especially on texts based on dialogue and action in space, i.e. they exhibit certain salient points with dialogue and action in space on stage. Whe working on these texts they alternate/combine procedures from imagining and from observation, i.e. proceeding „from the subject“ with proceeding „from the object“ or approaches that are (relatively!) „without distancing“ or „with distancing“. As concrete examples, they record a dream revealing the most general foundations of imagination, which they supplement with a discription of the observed actions of real person(s) and they record an overheard dialogue but to the contrary they also write an „invented“ dialogue, and the capturing of a real situation is balanced by a „dramatic scene“ etc. The texts handed in become the subject of interpretation with students participating from the beginning with the teacher leading them to the derivation of the relevant terms of literary and theatrical poetics, developed within confrontation between direct and indirect (figurative) expression, literal and symbolic levels, the subject and the (internal) theme, semantics and prosody, verbal and non-verbal gesture and written vs. oral, i.e. the overall potential for staged expression.
