- Tutor:
- Jaroslav VOSTRÝ
- Synopsis:
-
The seminar familiarizes 1st year directing, dramagurgy, theory and criticism students with the nature of artistically oriented expression „from the inside“, within the framework of literary expression containing a certain potency for staging. Here and in the 2nd semester, terms are arrived at by induction, i.e. with the help of interpretation of texts written by the students themselves.
- Prerequisites:
-
Handing in original texts (fabulated development of one's own traumatic experience, synopsis of action based on a given subject with development of one selected situation, dramatization of a short story and other texts, the subject and focus of which will be based on the individual abilities of students exhibited when performing earlier assignments) and reflections on the texts of others using appropriate terminology.
- Study Objectives:
-
The goal of the class is to develop creativity through writing focused so that through it the student's ability to develop a story can be cultivated, both from the general artistic perspective of its potentially symbolic (thematicized) presentation and in connection with the student's feel for drama and its cultivation.
- Outline and Syllabus:
-
Again in the second semester, students develop their literary expression through work on their own texts, in which this time they focus on fabulating (developing a story). During work on those texts, they alternate/combine proceeding from (an experienced or shared) situation (e.g. during creative fabulation of their own traumatic experience) and from an assigned subject, i.e. proceeding from „experience“ to fabulation and from a given story (myth fairytale etc.) to its (subjective) interpretation through one's own fabulation or the narrative approach (e.g. in the form of a synopsis of action) with the expository (=evocation of individual scenes including dialogue), i.e. the „epic“ with the „dramatic.“ The texts handed in become the subject of interpretation with students participating from the beginning with the teacher leading them to the derivation of the relevant terms of literary and theatrical poetics, developed within confrontation between narration (diegesis) and exposition (mimesis), narrativity and performativity, subject and fable, unfolding (an a priori determined story line) and developing (i.e. motivation representing the interpretation of a received story with concrete fabulation), motifs within the action and outside of it, action and composition etc.
