Synopsis:

Photographic seeing is a photographer's ability to observe and depict reality by using specific tools of photographic language. It is closely connected to imagination, visual memory and the ability to predict changes in the situation or the object in new conditions, relations, etc. Photographic seeing means above all knowing how to realise the quality of the motif - the reality - and to analyse it in a sense that considers all knowledge to get the best impact of the image. The aim of this seminar is to realise that photography as a visual communication medium has its own tools and methods and to exercise the basic principles of photographic seeing. In order to use this language effectively, we need to learn how to handle photographic symbols, how to operate with photographic tools. Assignments will aim at using composition elements (light and shadow, lines, shapes, spatial and plane solution etc.) in both the existing outdoor space and in constructed studio situations.
