The History and Theory of Photography is a series of lectures that traces developments in creative and documentary photography from WWI to the end of the 1980s. The lectures alternate with seminar-type lessons. For these seminars individual students have to prepare an analysis of a particular figure or trend.

Grading:
Submission of one thematic essay per semester: 40%
Final test and consequent oral exam: 40%
Active participation in discussions: 10%
Participation in lectures: 10% (minimum participation in 60% of the lectures is mandatory)

Assignments:
Every student has to prepare one essay per semester on a topic from the area of history of photography - specification of the topic is up to the student?s choice (the only limit imposed is that the essay must deal with a topic from the twentieth century, there is no limit on methodology, nor the maximum length of the essay). The minimum length is 8000 characters. The student has to work with selected literature and which has to be mentioned.
Beside that the student will have to present the essay to his or her colleague in a form of short lecture.
