Outline and Syllabus:

Tomáš Škrdlant /1943/ is a publicist and czech film documentary. He graduated from FAMU in 1966. Since 1990 he produced 60 documentary movies predominantly with emphasis on ecological, psychological and sociological problematic. His documentary scope is unusually wide and is navigated by serious personal concern on the present state of society in which we happen to live. His documentary work dealing with ageing, dying, on „abandoned“ children, or on the personality and teachings of Přemysl Pittr who along with his life-companion swiss citizen Olga Fierzova changed life of hundreds of people. He is the author of several essays, published in 1996 a book „Democracy of Nature“. He is co-author of a book „The Hidden Truth of Earth“ with Z. Neubauer.

During first four days of module will be projected four documents with strong emotional and humanistic charge. After each projection will take place dialog with Tomáš Škrdlant based on his personal agenda leading towards creation of such movies. Also how he is approaching his subjects, what enables him to record people on the film with amazing opens so they perform and speak from the inside. His movies are usually dealing with the essence of problematic, it generally means that he is in all of his 60 documents taking the risk of „bringing his name and work on the market with art“. Film documentary next to photographic documentary when applied in genuine way upon life of others, may or have strong a potential to create truthful image of the surrounding world.

The present body of work of Tomáš Škrdlant can serve as evidence of that. Part of module program is showing photographic portfolios or chosen photo-series to director Tomáš Škrdlant.
