This workshop is focused on introducing issues and methods in interdisciplinary projects in which researchers, technicians and artists collaborate. Particular emphasis is placed on the current environmental area of research and potental application of research tools and procedures for a comprehensive team project which support the practical and artistic aspects.

Bio: Andrea Polli is a prominent media artist who lives in works in New Mexico in the US. She uses research, technology and digital arts methods in her work. She is studying global system processes and investigating the ways these influence people's lives. Her work has been presented at a number of international exhibitions and performances. Andrea holds a number of awards and grants, has published writings in renowned periodicals including the MIT and Cambridge University Presses. She has written in many music and video publications.

Currently, she is involved in an Environmental inter-disciplinary research project where she works with professionals in climate systems and specializes in the use of sound - so-called Sonification. Her current research is focused on space sonification of a storm model, sonification of climate processes in New York's Central Park, or multi-channel sound and visual modelling of the weather of arctic areas. http://www.90degreessouth.org.

Andrea Polli

Andrea Polli is a professor at the Deptartment of Art and Technology at the Unversity of New Mexico and director of the Inter-disciplinary Program in the Film and Digital Media Deptartment. From 2005 to 2008 she lead the Integrated Media Arts Master's studies at Hunter College/CUNY. She is a member of the Leonardo Education Forum Council and associated with MIT Press and the College Arts Association of America (CAA). This organization promotes and supports the development of research and innovative academic studies linking the arts, science and technology. She is a member of the New York Society for Acoustic Ecology Council and an inter-disciplinary working-group researching the sound environments of cities.
