Study Objectives:

Students gain knowledge at the interpretive level and analysis of interpretation performance of other performers. The interpretation quality, style, music aesthetics, in a chamber ensemble, the musical empathy and creativity are systematically assessed.

In introducing their performance, the students are tasked to place the performed composition into a historical context.

Mode of delivery:

Students acquire experience with performance. In concert performance are a number of interpretation issues to which the course gives answers. In each course space is gradually give to each wind instrument and all style periods. Performances is assessed by the professors and students.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Instrument abilities correspondent to the study year and profile of the student. Sufficient music archive.

Recommended optional programme components

Regular use of a combination of wind, string, keyboard and percussion instruments.

Course contents:

Students in this course acquire experience in stage performance. Their role in instruction alternates. Students become performers and, importantly, have the opportunity to comment on a given performance. In a concert performance is a whole range of interpretation issues to which the coures gives answers. Student performance is analysed and assessed in all aspects of interpretation by the professors and students. In each course time is gradually allotted to all wind instruments and all style periods. Students, in each course, create a coherent concert program. Student performance is assessed in all aspects. Firstly, the composition is analyzed which the student played and individual interpretation difficulties are demonstrated. How the student managed these is evaluated. Neither the playing level of the student on the instrument nor the technical, intonation, sound, dynamics nor interpretion levels are unremarked. Comparisons with other previous performers are provided and possibly, other performances the same composition demonstrated, on CDs and positives and negatives of individual artistic performances are designated. Significant for the students is also the opportunity to perform individual compositions in public before other students in the course. This experience is very important in concert performance.

Not established. Instructors use opportunities to observe students in their orchestral and chamber ensembles.

On-going attendance of the students in instrumental, chamber competitions and auditions for symphonic and opera orchestras.
