The subject?s aim is to familiarise the department?s students with the widest range of trends in contemporary world theatre. Emphasis is placed on the diversity of contemporary theatre and the dissolving of boundaries between individual art forms. Students learn about contemporary developments in the dramatic arts through profiles of contemporary practitioners in theatre, dance, puppet theatre design.

Curriculum:
The semester focuses on the artists behind contemporary puppet theatre (e.g. William Kentridge and the Handspring Puppet Company from South Africa) and the Theatre of Objects (e.g. the Dutch Dogtoep and their successors).
Syllabus:
Study of the most recent movements in contemporary world theatre based on personal experience as a spectator. This is gained both through video projections and directly by visiting performances or through personal meetings with the artists.
