Study Objectives:

Preparation of bachelor undergraduate students for independent working in theatre operations or continuing to master's study. This course prepares student for mastering the basic study material necessary not only for undertaking the final bachelor's exam successfully and writing the bachelor's graduation paper but also for future independent practice for organization and direction activity in the theatre field.

This block course in the final semester of bachelor's study presents a summary of theatre directing instruments, presents the students the internal standards and regulations focusing on the directives, orders and manners of directing a theatre. The aim of the course is to introduce students to the direction instruments in Czech theatre and undertakings, rules and instruments for use in directing a theatre. Upon completion of the course student will be better able to orient themselves in the internal regulations of theatre institutions and projects. Furthermore, the course concentrates on external and internal supervisory activities and the application of legislation on public tenders.

Mode of delivery:

Instruction is in the form of a moderated dialogue between the instructor and the students. Discussions about the developing study material and assigned course work and an analysis of material used in different theatres. There are analyses of relevant establishments and their application to the theatre environment.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Students must complete Block courses I.1, I.2, II.1, II.2, III.1.

Course contents:

After review and mastery of fundamental knowledge in theatre operations attention is given - along with the minimum of knowledge required by the Theatre Production Department - to significant current concepts, tendencies and trends (cultural politics, culture capital, culture as an economic factor, cultural or creative industry, the multiplication effect of grants to theatres, culture as an image factor; theatre as a local factor - the most natural community forum and significat city reputation element; multiculturalism, one-world-theatre, globalization tendencies; atypical projects; festivals, independent cultural centers, venues, coproductions, etc.).

The main course of the BA study program. A block study in the final semester of the Bachelor's study, studys are introduced to the basic theatre directing instruments and standards. Instruction will also be devoted to the external and internal supervision activity and eventual feedback in detail and linked to the real situation in Czech Theatre. The basic regulations for applying the Legislation on Public Tender for Theatre will be studied. Student will be introduced to the basic issues of financial development, using proposal competition and issues of ownership and its protection.

V VI. semester is focused on the following areas:

Assessment methods and criteria

Credits are awarded based on:

activity in the course

development and presentation of the semester work

completion of the final exam

During the semester, this course requires a study of the necessary material and active participation in the course which is a requirement for participation in the exam.

The exam is written and based on the number of required points follows an oral test. The overal evaluation is comprised of 40% of the assessed activity in the course, 30% from the written exam and 30% from the oral.

Conditions for successful completion of the course: active participation in the course, development and presentation of the semester work and completion of the final exam.
