Study Objectives:

The aim of the course is to refresh the study of religious symbols (as a part of culture) at FAMU by substitution, that is a broadening of the original study subject with the title „Dramaturgical Analysis of Biblical Stories“ and establish a new subject of instruction with the title „Considerations of Multi-Culturalness and Religious Pluralism in Modern Film.“

The aim is to present in the form of an introductory study modern western culture not only as a purely Christian society but primarily as multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-religious as it is reflected in modern film. The effort will also be made to denote the perspectives of the course including potential inter-disciplinary collaboration with other artistic and humanities studies.

Mode of delivery:

The course content is 4 instruction hours once every 14 days. The four instruction hours are layed-out to one hour lectures and three of instruction classes. Students have enough time during the course of the academic year for individual course preparations (independent study of film material). Also sufficient space is assured for selected film example screenings for the topics and discussion.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

A necessary requirement for successful completion of the course is a good orientation in modern film and independent work in the classes including the ability to consider one's own motivation and behaviour. Knowledge of religion is welcomed but one's own religous confession is not necessary.

Recommended optional programme components

No elective elements necessary.
