Study Objectives:

Awareness of the issues and uniqueness of the creative process, which in this period of the preference for sterile artefacts, is forgotten. Accounting for the latent potential in film, as a continuously regenerating language, enables and highlights.

Mode of delivery:

moderated discussions.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Ability to perceive film as a living organism with a view to all issues which the study of a living thing brings.

Recommended optional programme components

No elective requirements necessary

Course contents:

A comparative seminar that traces the dynamic relations between the language of film and other language systems. It pays particular attention to the difference between alphabetic thought (language in the narrow sense of the word) and thought in images (going beyond the standard semiological interpretation). The seminar advances the idea of thinking about film as a process and sets it against the reductive perception of film as an artefact.
