Study Objectives:

The aim of the exercise is to create the complete sound element of an assigned AV project in which the student demonstrates sound dramaturgy skills and mastery of sound techniques and necessary technology.

Mode of delivery:

Student work on the sound element of an assigned practical exercise includes all the usual technological processes in the creation in an AV work. In the first phase: Screenplay study, consultations with the director and Sound Dept. instructor, preparations for shooting and shooting itself in a particular surroundings (the studio, exterior or on location). In the second phase: finalization work at the digital work station (DAW) - setting the sound to the image, cleaning, corrections and synchronization of recorded sound, supplementary music, background and sound atmosphere by supplementary shooting or selecting recordings from the archives. The final operations will be the sound mixing of the prepared recrodings, set into multiple tracks.

In shooting the student, as sound master who directs the work of the microphone assistant - in principle a Sound Dept. lower year student. An inseparable part of the exercise is a written explanation which must be submitted with the AV recording exercise. In the written explanation, the student demonstrates along with creative talent, they also have a rational view of the professional issues and manages not only the practical side of the exercise but is also able to systematically describe, and analyze their work. The student also understands the underpinnings of the given issue and with acquired experience also takes away general theory lessons.

The written explanation needs:

- to demonstrate through analysis of the assignment that the student understands the purpose and considerations of the practical task.

- to consider possible variations and justify the sound dramaturgy and implementation selected.

- to describe the applied technology, technical equipment used and manner of work including precise data regarding the technology management, etc.

- to comment on the environment which influence the implementation, (influence of the surroundings, crew collaboration...).

- to evaluated the results of their work and extract general conclusions, or analyze effects of insufficiencies and propose what might have been a better treatment.

- to demonstrate the ability to write a stylized professional text - in standard language, without slang or grammar mistakes.

The written explanation should have the appropriate formal tone, systematic arrangement and clear divisions. The name of the student, study and study year must be presented at the beginning. Further, a complete specification of the data of the work must be presented - the name of the work, genre, crew names, format, footage, year of completion and the like. At the end, the explanation must be dated and signed.

The content and formality level is considered in the whole of the exercise grading.
