Study Objectives:

The course aim is to introduce current issues in multi-channel final sound mixing of a full-length feature film.

The course is linked to „Sound in Feature Film and TV.“

Mode of delivery:

Contact instruction.

Conveyance of the theory and practical experience of the instructor, discussion.

A presentation focused on multi-channel final sound mix of a full-length feature film.

The presentation is supplemented with irregular student assignement in Soundsquare and Virtual studios.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Completion of „Sound in Feature Film and TV“ and all Sound Dept. Bachelor's study trade courses.

Active approach to instruction, regular attendance.

Recommended optional programme components

Watching in the cinema all current Czech films sent to distribution in the course of the semester.

Course contents:

The presentation is focused particularly on the final mix of the sound element of a feature film, creation of the sound compostion in the intentions of the creator. This course is linke to „Sound in Feature Film and TV.“

1. Mix theory of a full-length feature film.

2. Classical method of mono and multi-channel Dolby mixing in analog technology.

3. Mixing on DAW

4. The difference between the Mix-controller and Mix-consle.

5. Mixing films in multi-channel analog format (Dolby).

6. Mixing films in multi-channel digital format 5.1. (Dolby Digital)

7. Mastering the final mix on MOD Dolby.

8. International Sound tracks. (IT, FX+M, MP)

9. Digital cinema and sound.

Assessment methods and criteria

Credit is awarded for participation; 90% of total class hours, active approach to instruction, regular attendance and completion of the final interview.
