This course prepares students for the instructor track in middle-schools, conservatories and music schools. It also helps students understand the principles of Bassoon play in their own activities. Considering that at each school level pupil levels vary the methodology deals with each level separately. First, in methodology, all Bassoon play attributes are discussed directly in student play. Then all method exercises are defined with the student. These are proper breathing, tone creation, embouchure, fingering technique, performance and literature knowledge. In this course breath, tone, embouchure, instrument holding, muscle relaxing and overal facility are covered. Breathing when playing the Bassoon is one of the most important factors. Further development and potential depends on the proper mastery of this. Breathing is methodically exercised using breathing exercises. Closely related to this is tone creation. Linked to breating is embouchure exercise and analysis of proper lip, upper and lower teeth placement and pressure. Proper tongue function is separated into two parts. In the first, placement is covered, various types and possibilities and in the second staccato with its speed and quality.
