Study Objectives:

Předmět vybaví studenta vědomostmi o literatuře v oblasti orchestrální hry a prakticky procvičí nejdůležitější sóla ,se kterými se může orchestrální hráč v praxi setkat. Ve všech předmětech se postupně objeví všichni skladatelé a jejich významná sóla pro hoboj v orchestrálním světě. Pracuje se s orchestrálními studiemi tuzemských i zahraničních edicí a se specializovanými party orchestrů České republiky (ČF, FOK, SOČR, ND).

Course contents:

This course provides students with an awareness of orchestral literature and practices the most important solos which the orchestral musician can encounter. In this course parts from world symphonic and opera compositions are practiced - L. van Beethoven, W.A. Mozart, and Brahms. Beethoven's orchestra, that is the sound, color and concept of playing is different from the classical orchestral sound. In this course Beethoven's Brahms and Mozart's intepretations are taught. The course explains what is particular to orchestra playing but also places demands on the musician. Principles regarding intonation for different instruments is taught. This course clarifies principles of tuning with the clarinet, flute, oboe or other instrument. Color intonation, a type of color tuning, is an important aspect of orchestra playing. Playing dynamics in an orchestra has a different nature. For example, solos must be played one dynamic marking stronger than is written, etc. The difference in playing in symphony and opera orchestras is defined and practiced. This course introduces sound samples of various interpretations of the same composition; the approach of the same conductor with various orchestras or the same orchestra with various conductors.

Other oboe and English hor parts of all types of orchestra material from the archives of ČF, SOČR or FOK with particular emphsis on oboe parts in compositions by A. Dvořák and J. Brahms.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Participation of students in auditions for symphonic and opera orchestras.

Assessment methods and criteria

Evaluation of instrument and orchestra playing, completion of the established repertoire, AKS verification, all concluded with the award of credit.
