The presentation tracks the most important events, activities and figures on the Viennese ballet scene from the beginning of the 19th century to the present with an emphasis on the interaction of those events with those in the Czech environment. Attention will be devoted in detail to the Romance ballet period in which Vienna was one of the most important ballet centers and where leading figures of that style were active, for example; Filippo and Marie Taglioni, Fanny Elssler, Jules Perrot and others. Students are introduced to the local form of late-Romance balletIn the second half of the 19th century as presented by choreographer Josef Hassreiter and his narrative, patriotic ballet (Rund um Wien,Puppenfee). Great space is given to a presentation of the Viennese contribution to forming the European dance modern (the hosting of Isadora Duncan, Viennese dancers Grete Wiesenthal, Gertrud Kraus, Gertrud Bodenweieser and others.). In the period following the Second World War the lectures review some selected figures and events of Viennese ballet history.
