Study Objectives:

Cílem předmětu je na základě dříve získaných informací z obecné sociologie pokračovat ve výkladu témat tanečně sociologických. V tomto směru poskytuje předmět osobitý úhel pohledu na studium tance, zdůrazňující jeho fungování ve společnosti a společenské interakci, sledující procesy institucionalizace a profesionalizace tance apod.

Course contents:

In the second semester the presentation starts with an overview of the current situation in Dance Sociology, an introduction to the leading figures in Dance Sociology studies, their research and works, primarily Helen Thomas. Selected topics are covered in which the use of various sociology methods and explanatory frameworks are demonstrated. Some example are a comparison of dance and music from a viewpoint of sociology, the societal function of dance, dance in high society, ballet de cour as a sociological topic, dance and health, dance and sport, the sociological context of space for dance, social space established in dance, the socio-genesis of the waltz, dance institutions, burgher versus nobility balls, dance and age categories, dance as a profession.

During the semester participation in lectures, independent study of texts, if need be, participation in research are required. The oral exam makes u 90% of the grade.
