Study Objectives:

To acquire awareness of and practical skills in fundraising in the cultural sphere.

Mode of delivery:

lectures, moderated discussions, project presentation and analysis, marketing plan analysis, analysis of model projects.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

a) concepts in fundraising and grant policy

b) developing a plan and budget for a cutural project (event) with financing from external sources (fundraising plan)

c) developing grant requests

d) strategy and marketing in private sources.

Course contents:

1. Introduction to the course - delimitation of lecture topics, delimitation of basic concepts - fundraising, marketing, grant, patronage, philanthropy, sponsoring, private resources, public resources, contributing organizations, the non-profit sector, public-private sektor.

2. Fundraising - Fundraiser activity, fundraising planning

3. Main donating groups - their characteristics, donating - receiving resources, request character, personal approach and donator motives and requestors.

4. Endowments and endowment funds - characteristics, function

5. Non-profit organizations - concept, types, contributing and budgeting organizations

6. Gifts, donating - types, basic contract types, tax advantages

7. Marketing - concept explanation, a marketing plan and its parts

8. Sponsoring, SWOT analysis

9. EU finance sources - Nordic funds, structural funds (operating programs), community programs

10. Endowment programs and grants - The Czech Republic Ministry of Culture, Prague City Municipal Authorities, City municipalities.

11. A basic survey of endowments and endowment funds supporting cultural projects

12. Project budget - basic struture, analysis of model budgets, creating a simple budget

13. Ministry of Education, Youth and Physical Education, Czech Republic grant agencies, Company endowments - basic overview

Assessment methods and criteria

Credit is awarded based on activity in lectures, development of the semester paper and presentation of the assigned project.

During the semester independent reading and assigned topic presentation preparations are required. The overall grade is comprised of 20% for activity in lectures, 40% from the written exam and 40% from the oral exam.

Conditions for successfull completion of the course: project development and presentation, development of the semester paper on an assigned topic.
