Study Objectives:

To broaden knowledge about sound signals as the bearer of music information, its typology and morphology, particularly regarding its processing and artificial generation.

Course contents:

Music acoustics and its relationship to sound study.

Sound and music signals, natural and artificial, a definition.

Tranmission of a music signal, types of transmission, its axis and relationships.

Conditions for the subjective existence of a sound signal, time thresholds for sound perception.

Objectie and subjective sound properties, mutual relationships and dependencies.

Signal time and frequency domains.

Static and dynamic signal concepts, definitions of tone and noise.

Three-dimensional depiction of a music signal

Dynamics levels, signal time-envelope, percussive and non-percussive signals

Transient and trailing processes, bouncing status, dynamic fluctuations, tremolo

Melodic level, frequency and immediate frequency, harmonic spectrum, vibrato

Harmonic level, basic typology of sound signals.

Periodic signals and their frequency spectrum, modulated and quasi-periodic signals

Incidental, transient and continual signals.

Time depedent spectra and their objective and subjective interpretations.

Sound signal analysis methods in time domains, periodicity, correlation.

Analog frequency analysis methods, band filters and their properties.

Digital frequency analysis methods, DFT, FFT, waves, cepstrum

Anti-aliasing, windowing, averaging spectra.

Synthesizing a sound signal, its definition and philosophy.

Fundamental psycho-acoustic dimension of sound color in relation to synthesis

Natural signal generation model, synthesis and re-synthesis

Static and dynamic sythesis, linear and non-linear synthesis methods.

Mass Fourier and non-Fourier methods.

Distinction methods, managed filtration of complex signals.

Modulation methods, circular, frequential nad parametric modulation.

Form methods, non-linear formation, approximation, segmentation

Physical and mathematic modelling methods, other methods of sound synthesis.
