Study Objectives:

Systematic reflection on basic problems and questions connected with the origins and development of the art of drama and analysis of specific examples from contemporary stage practice.

Mode of delivery:

Classes, writings on assigned issues and their explanation.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Term paper developing an assigned topic with the aid of archival materials, expert reviews and continually published literature.

Recommended optional programme components

Monitor of various manners of current interpretation of classic works domestically and around the world.

Course contents:

1. Development and foundations of drama genres

2. Monologue vs. dialogue in the development of and creating drama

3. Components of drama theatre and developmental transformations of their relations

4. Drama text and stage work

5. From the dramatic situation to action in stage space

6. Text and subtext, the „interior“ and „exterior“, image and expression, conventional and expressive behaviour

7. Two directions of stage communication and their consequences and transformations

Study materials:

Literature is assigned on the basis of specific tasks.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Classes where students bring developed issues for the bachelor's exam in directing and dramaturgy supplemented by instructor explanation.

Assessment methods and criteria

Class participation. Development of assigned queries and their explanantion.
