Study Objectives:

The subject's aim is to acquaint the student with the basic rules of personnel, salary/wage and commission procedure in the theatre, to compose dramaturgic plans, to learn the procedures in a production's formulation. To verify the students' ability to acquire and then process information obtained in an internal analysis of a given theatrical issue.

Mode of delivery:

Based on the independent study of recommended literature and sources, students develop, independently, the course work on an assigned topic. The course work is presented by the students during the course and the subsequent moderated discussions are notes of comparison to modern practice.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

- participation in the course (min. 70%)

- completion of given coursework during the semester

- oral exam: analysis of written work + discussion

1/ ZS (Elementary School) work schedule + introduction + literature + homework

The baccalaureate study, content and structure of the program and its character; fundamental terminology of theatre; changes in the paradigm in theatre, the theatre in the current concept of its study and focus of inter-disciplines; non-spectator and extra-stage parts of theatre; the creative character of the field

Explanation, commentary and subsequent discussions of audio-visual inspiration based on Czech Television Czech theatre direction and paradoxes of modern Czech theatre, Jaroslav Kvapil

2/ general aspects, genius locii, analysis of the location and environment

Cultural legacy, cultural capital, cultural destination, cultural policy, the culture state; micro-environments/macro-environments; theatre as a community forum, as a city reputation element and part of the revitalization of a location; culture as an image factor.

3/modern history and current status of theatre in the Czech Republic

The theatre network and infrastructure; changes in the theatre topography in time; myth and reality, reasoning: the multiplication effect of grants to theatres and other social and economic contributions, theatre as a product, as a part of the cultural industry; actual tendencies and trends: the de-theaterization of theatre and attributes of theatre; the market, contest and competition

80% class participation, completion of assignments and passing of the written exam are required.

Credit is awarded based on:

completion of the course paper - 15%
