- Study Objectives:

The seminar's goal is to familiarize students with contemporary European theatrical or dramatic creation, especially with that which is based on different principles from the theatrical culture of Central Europe of the Czech Republic and is therefore neglected by Czech dramaturgy. The emphasis is mainly on work with texts that break with traditional dramatic categories and are hard to grasp with the tools of classic dramaturgical analysis. An integral part of the seminar is reflection on differing views of the dramatic or theatricality in various (European) cultures.

- Course contents:

Course content is primarily analyses of dramas which have arisen in the last twenty year in which it is possible to indicate the particular direction of this or that (language) theatre culture. Students, also, are introduced to important persons of theatre directing abroad and the function of theatre institutions in individual countries. Along with direct individual experience with foreign theatre, video recordings, foreign language dramas and existing Czech translations are used.
