Register Display Schedule
Course unit code:
307ECH2
Course unit title:
Chemical and Physiscs Technology and Techniques of Photography 2
Mode of delivery:
zkouška
Range:
2/T
Type of course unit:
compulsory subject
Level of course unit:
Year of study
1st year
Semester when the course unit is delivered
letní
Number of ECTS credits allocated:
2
Garant předmětu:
Martin STECKER
Name of lecturer(s):
Martin STECKER
Study Objectives:

This course focuses on acquiring basic theory and manual skill so the students will be able in future studies to apply the acquired knowledge in their own artistic activity.

In the theory lectures students are introduced to photography processing theory. They acquire knowledge about the principle of capturing a photographic image, types and composition of photographic materials, their processing and assessing.

Theory knowledge is then linked to the practical exercises and manual dexterity is adopted in processing photographic material. There is an introduction to and practice in using some specific processing technique for B/W developing processing.

Overall students acquire a complete overview of the generation of the photographic image, its modifications and applications. Students will be able to completely manage their photographic activity.

Mode of delivery:

Grading:

Credit: awarded based on the assessment of the submitted exercises (Kynetics of development), successfull completion of the written test and minimum participation of 75%.

Oral test is comprised of the following topic:

- Principle of image capturing using silver halides

-- The role of silver halides - theory of the latent image

-- Basic development scheme.

-- Photo-chemical laws (Grotthus-Drapper Law, Bunsen-Roscoe Law, Einstein's Law, Schwarzschild Effect)

- Photographic Emulsion

-- Photographic Emulsion as a collection of silver halide micro-crystals

-- The influence of micro-crystal emulsion size on sensitivity, graniness and gradation of photographic material

-- Improvement of sensitivity - graniness by micro-crystal emulsion structure, using crystal network damage

-- Tabular crystals

-- Compostie crystals (shell-core; epitaxial crystals)

--- Photographic emulsion production and photographic materials

- Processing photographic materials

- B/W positive-negative material systems

-- Developing:

--- Chemical processing (chemical basis, developing materials, composition of developers for B/W photography)

--- Physical developing (chemical basis, composition of developers)

--- Processing kynetics

Fixing (chemical basis, types of fixers)

-- Washing

-- Special photographic techniques

--- Diffusion effects and their use

--- Reinforcing negatives

--- Weakening negatives

--- Rehalogenation

--- Toning

- B/W inversion process

-- Structure of B/W inversion materials

-- Processing

- Color photographic materials

-- Light and Color (additive and subtractive color mixing)

-- Physical principles of capturing a color image

-- Chemical principles of capturing a color image

-- Evaluating color photographic materials

-- Types of color photographic materials

--- Positive-Negative system (principle of the capture and development process)

--- The color inversion process (principle of the capture and development process)

--- Kodachrome (principle of the capture and development process)

--- Color material based on diffusion processes (principle of the capture and development process)

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Completion of „The Chemical and Physical Technology and Techniques of Photography 2.“

Recommended optional programme components
