American composer and sound artist gives two days workshop for students of AMU and Technical University, focusing on the techniques recently developed at the Center for New Music and Audio Technologies at U.C Berkeley.

This hands-on workshop will explore issues of immediacy and physicality in installation art. Students should bring examples of their work and any materials (including computers) and they need to design new projects.

This lecture/demonstration describes the techniques recently developed at the Center for New Music and Audio Technologies at U.C Berkeley, involving physical object, electro-?acoustics, and their potential applications in video, inter-?media, and installation environments. The technique involves the acoustic modeling of specific physical objects, several different processes of computer manipulation and control, and the realization of these sounds through the original objects via attached transducer. A live demonstration of the process technique using metal percussion instruments will be given.

Aspects of spatialization and environmental acoustics will be addressed, and the application of these techniques in combination with immersive video and other inter-? media environments will be explored. Fixed vs. algorithmic processes will be demonstrated, and their techniques and applications will be explored.

The use of available software, such as Max/MSP/Jitter, Isadora, and others, will also be discussed.

Interactive installation will be created with students as a result of the workshop.
