Learning outcomes of the course unit:

This course is linked to Classical Dance Methods 4. The instruction aim: anaylsis of new elements a la barre and au milieu for the 6th year of study. Ability to lead a classical dance lesson at the advance stage of instruction.

Mode of study:

This course continues Classical Dance methodology 4. It contains a detailed analysis of classical dance technique elements of the 6th year of an eight year tance conservatory curriculum. This study year begins the final advanced phase of instruction. The Agrippina Vaganova system continues to be the instruction.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Practice and theory knowledge of classical dance technique for the elementary (1st-3rd year) and intermediate (4th-5th year) phases of instruction.

Recommended optional programme components:

No elective requirements.

Course contents:

Analysis of new elements (orientation list):

a la barre:

port de bras in grand poses, reverse fouette in grand poses, various types of pirouettes and tours

au millieu:

flic-flac a grand temps relevé en tournant, temps lié s pirouette, grand temps lié s promenade a s tour , arabesque penché, développé tombé z velkých póz, grand battement jeté balancé, grand fouetté z kroku, battement divisé en quart, quatre pirouettes,„ Italian adagio“ according to Vaganova and manners of grand battement. various types of pirouettes and tours. Based on the learning of new elements, students create a combination for a 6th year curriculum. Instruction begins to work toward the mastery of classical technique, combinations acquire a professional character. Musical accompaniment is new very diverse in comparison to the basic or intermediate phase of instruction. Tempo is significantly faster. Along with the Vaganova method, students are introduced to other instruction systems (ex: Cecchetti, Bournonville, Balanchine). Based on observations at dance conservatories, students write a course paper in which they assess the lesson watched in classical dance.

Exam oral-practical

Overall evaluation: 30% participation, 30% methodical work, 30% presentation, 10% exam.
