Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The aim of the course is to provide students a detailed knoweldge of classical dance technique, provide an understanding of the principles of creating individual elements and phrases so one may work with them in instruction. Instruction follows dance conservatory curricula.

Mode of study:

This course is linked to Classical Dance Technique 3, continuing elements of Classical dance technique in the 4th and 5th study years at a Dance conservatory. Emphasis is placed on the instructional aspects of mastering technique issues.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Presumed developed knowledge of classical dance technique. The aim is not performer but instructor training. Instruction is linked from semester to semester. The completion of the previous semester is necessary.

Recommended optional programme components:

No elective requirements.

Course contents:

Systematic development of new elements of classic dance in the 4th and 5th years and a simultaneous repetition and practicie of elements already covered which arise in phrases and combinations for the intermediate phase of instruction. In this semester in continuity with the method we work primarily on allegra, and optional sur le pointes exercises.

Development of movement coordination, working with the head, arms, should feeling, devleopment of the artistic and stage senses. Emphasis on memory, endurance, musicality, accelerando, arranging more complex jump variations with an emphasis on clean execution of phrase elements. A particular emphasis is placed on technique principles of launch and landing of jumps, batte jump techniques and arm coordination in allegro variations.
